The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the world’s foremost authority on environmental issues, providing leadership and fostering partnerships to promote sustainable development. UNEP inspires and empowers nations and communities to enhance their quality of life while safeguarding the needs of future generations. Within UNEP’s Climate Change Division, the Cities Unit plays a pivotal role in advancing the UN’s strategy on sustainable urban development and supporting the implementation of the New Urban Agenda. In this context, UNEP is seeking a full-time Level A consultant to offer comprehensive support in communications, knowledge management, coordination, and advocacy. Key responsibilities include maintaining internal knowledge systems, synthesizing and adapting information from the Unit’s projects and programs, and coordinating the Unit’s involvement in global and regional events. The consultant will produce a quarterly newsletter, develop and implement advocacy and communication plans, manage webinars in collaboration with UNEP teams, and create a range of knowledge products while contributing to UNEP’s broader communication efforts. Additionally, they will ensure seamless information flow within the Unit and with external partners, coordinate participation in major advocacy events, and assist with external communications by preparing materials such as speaking points, press releases, and social media content. The consultant will also oversee updates to the Cities Unit website and assist with internal coordination. This role will be under the direct supervision of Gulnara Roll, Head of the Cities Unit.
2 years of demonstrated experience in communications, Knowledge management, advocacy, multimedia, management, and/or international relations. Demonstrated strong communication skills, including writing and event planning. Demonstrated graphical skills and experience in using graphical tools such as Canva, Ms PowerPoint, Adobe, In Design, Trello Board and M Director. Understanding of urban development, climate, and environmental issues is preferable.
Fluency in English is required for this position. Working knowledge of French and any other languages will be an asset.
